Hey, I’m James. I don’t think music should take itself too seriously, and I reserve the right to apply the same principle to myself.
Once upon a time, I studied classical vocal performance at l’Université de Moncton in Canada. It was pretty cool. I also wrote a bit of music — had some choral pieces go over pretty well, and threw in an opera for good measure that was premiered at the Capital Theatre in Moncton, New Brunswick, in January 2010. Ended up relocating to London (the OG, not the Canadian one) for an MMus in composition, and I’ve been here ever since.
Over the years I’ve written and arranged music that’s been performed in Canada and the UK (including by the Canadian Chamber Choir, Prairie Voices, the Jeunes Chanteurs d’Acadie, the Savoy Jazz Choir, and the Trio Arkaède); I’ve conducted a few choirs and vocal ensembles; and I’ve done a bit of singing here and there. Took a bit of a creative break for some work in the real world (I like to eat and am not so keen on being homeless), but life without music is dull and colourless. So let’s do it all together, eh?
You can check out some of what I’ve done on the other pages here. You can’t easily contact me with a nice simple web form because WordPress forms seem to convert everything into spam and I’m fed up with the whole thing. But you can drop me a line on LinkedIn. Or send me an email on hello @ this website. I wouldn’t recommend beating out a rhythm in Morse code. I don’t know Morse code.
