Hey, I’m James. I don’t think the arts should take themselves too seriously, and I reserve the right to apply the same principle to myself.
Once upon a time, I studied classical vocal performance at l’Université de Moncton in Canada. Discovered some great music, and performed in a bunch of operas. It was pretty cool. I also wrote a bit of music — had some choral pieces go over pretty well, and threw in an opera for good measure that was premiered at the Capital Theatre in Moncton, New Brunswick, in January 2010. Ended up relocating to London (the OG, not the Canadian one) for an MMus in composition, and I’ve been here ever since.
Took a bit of a creative break for some work in the real world (I like to eat and am not so keen on being homeless), but life without the arts is dull and colourless. Also, turns out business process design, project management, and decision-making under tight deadlines have an awful lot of similarities to organising events and concerts and general artistic-crisis problem-solving, and translate well to set life and fast-moving shoots. So let’s do it all together, eh?
Recently decided to make a foray into Supporting Artist (a.k.a. extra) work in film and television. Having a blast. No, I can’t talk about it. NDAs are a thing.
You can check out some of what I’ve done on the other pages here. You can’t easily contact me with a nice simple web form because WordPress forms seem to convert everything into spam and I’m fed up with the whole thing. But you can drop me a line on LinkedIn. Or send me an email on hello @ this website. I wouldn’t recommend beating out a rhythm in Morse code. I don’t know Morse code.
